I feign enthusiasm
As you explain the dream
Wishing we could relate
About weather, instead.
No, I can’t imagine
What you saw, tasted, touched, felt
I wasn’t there
I’m barely here
For the cloud dragons
And starfruit smelling of coal
You laugh
At a part that’s unfunny
Breaking the tension
Knowing I’m holding on
Because I love you
And I’m always willing to listen
To these dreams
Which are like memories
Of a life you never had
And one I’ve never known
I laugh in response
On autopilot
Wishing you were done.
And we could just kiss
A little bit longer
Instead.
