I mourn for a finger that doesn’t throb
Torn on the edge of a nightstand
Today it hurts like a dozen papercuts
Which is to say a lot,
but it looks like nothing
And sounds more dramatic than it might be
It really stings too
I say to no one
Because it’s not the kind of pain or injury
You want to brag about
Just the kind that hurts badly
Until you forget it even did
In the first place
